42 to Doomsday - Up (Peri) Scope!
Friday Mar 12, 2021
Friday Mar 12, 2021
Episode 90 – Up (Peri) Scope! - We are back and once again have dragged some beauties from the archives, but this time, with a difference! We’ve put DWB and the 90’s (temporarily) on hiatus and travelled back to the late 70’s / early 80’s of Australian fandom. We focus on our northern cousins (aka the country bumpkins from Queensland) and their (sometimes extreme!) contemporary views on Season 17! Gasp at the caustic contemporary editorials ranting against Season 17, cringe at the views in the letters pages that will make you want to take a long, hot shower and grimace at a ‘unique’ retrospective on Target novels and where they went wrong! All this plus will the lads react in their usual calm manner when presented with differing views on their favourite / worst Dr Who stories and more importantly, will Mark’s latest joke ‘efforts’ help Rob break out of his writing funk! In this episode we debut our FANtastic creators segment where we shine the spotlight on some of the many talented people in Doctor Who fandom. We discuss how she became a fan of the program and what inspires her to create her wonderful creations as well as the process involved. Millie can be found on Twitter @CowBearCreates and Instagram @cowbearcreations Aron's Collectables can be found on: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Arons-Collectables-103975918212052/ Instagram https://www.instagram.com/arons_collectables

Episode 88 - The Doomsday Weapon(s) are back! Rob and Mark are again joined by friends of the podcast, Dave and Richard, for our anticipated (and much loved) Xmas special! Your Xmas stockings will overflow as we discuss the Doctor Who stories we watched during lockdown and obsess over our Top 3 Doctor Who stories featuring plagues. Then we journey back in time for our Target Book Club where we chat about novelisations of historical stories. No 42 to Doomsday Xmas special would be complete without our Annual Fanwank of the Year award...what has set off snarky Marky this time. and for the first time in six years, will Big Finish lose the crown of biggest Fanwankers? Apologies for the sub-optimal sound quality hopefully it doesn't spoil your enjoyment!

42 to Doomsday - Should’ve Been Another Way?
Saturday Nov 21, 2020
Saturday Nov 21, 2020
Episode 87 - It's another 'What If' episode, this time looking at what could have been for Season 23! Which previous Doctor would we have chosen to appear in the Past segment of Trial of a Time Lord? Did the umbrella theme actually work. And gasp as we ponder what exactly is a 'reverse Samson'? All this plus a yet another bulging sack of listeners emails, plus we have a special treat as Mark embraces the blasphemous animations as we hear his thoughts on the resurrected Fury from the Deep...plus, listen in to Rob's emotional tribute to those Victorian's who have chosen to vacate the state post lockdown!

42 to Doomsday - Remember When
Saturday Sep 26, 2020
Saturday Sep 26, 2020
Episode 86 - In the first of a new and (hopefully) semi-regular segment we talk to ex-Grumpcaster and occasional Something Whoer Mike (aka Servo Robot) on his early memories of watching the programme. What was it like to live through Dalekmania? Is Wheel in Space any good? How exciting was it to watch Invasion of the Dinosaurs episode 1 (in full colour)? and why is Mike cursed to have seen The Space Pirates not once, but twice!! Mike shares his research on Doctor Who transmissions in Australia, in particular new information about how remote mining companies got to see TV in the early 70’s. And finally, riddle me this - how can a Doctor Who story with only one print be shown on the same day across three different time zones (*cough Duplicate Prints cough*) And what treasures could exist in the store...Bond store!

42 to Doomsday - What If?
Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Sunday Aug 16, 2020
Episode 85 - With our 'normal' reality in lockdown and frankly a bit pants, Rob and Mark go all Sliders (the TV show not the small burgers) and use our fanwank powers to discuss many ‘what if’ scenarios about Doctor Who as suggested by you our wonderful listeners!!! What if Ray Cusick hadn't designed the Daleks? What if Zoe had stayed on for Season 7? How about Mary Tamm as the 5th Doctor? What does the tv landscape look like if The Dark Dimension is made? And was Pigbin Josh the Watcher all along? All this, plus recommendations on 'family friendly' comedy films of the 1980's, the length of Rob's new 'rocking' lockdown mullet and will Mark's latest attempts at 'humour' finally make the Indiana Jones of film collecting hand over some 'artefacts'? (hot tip - no!)

42 to Doomsday - The Cannonball(s-up) Run
Thursday May 28, 2020
Thursday May 28, 2020
Episode 84 - Unlimited Doctors? More like unlimited Rice Pudding! The Timeless Children certainly set the the internet and fandom alight with its wholesale changes to Who canon. Rob, Mark and special guest Rob Lloyd try to unpack their feelings about the Series 12 finale and explore why changes to our beloved Who canon are met with resistance. Are there common threads/themes with other sci-fi franchises to be found? All this plus heaps of listener feedback mail, more ideas for Happy Finish productions and we ask the big question - would the world's most forthright Doctor Who Missing Episode hunters unite to help out the unemployed??

42 to Doomsday - Corona(s) of the Sun
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Thursday Apr 23, 2020
Episode 83 - The Onmi-Tw*ts (C-PM) are back and have broken out of isolation to bring you a brand new episode! We set the Wayback Machine and drag ourselves through the archives to mid-1990 where Guru Josh ruled the charts and not one, but two actual real life and not made up production companies were interested in making the programme (even if the BBC were not). Listen as we marvel at how BBC Video and W H Allen schedules were filled to the brim to plug the Doctor Who-shaped hole in our lives. And finally, which companion was described by that august publication The Sun as 'curvy'? All this plus: 'honest' reactions to Series 12, The Faceless Ones (re)animation, what we think about recasting dearly departed companions from those purveyors of Fan Wank 'Happy Finish', more attempts of 'humour' by Mark and a rant from Rob which can only be described as biblical!

42 to Doomsday - 5th (Element) Xmas Party!
Sunday Dec 22, 2019
Sunday Dec 22, 2019
Episode 82 - Praise God not only for delivering a Son unto the World, but also the latest Christmas episode of the 42 to Doomsday podcast! The Grinch's (a.k.a) Rob and Mark along with Dave and Richard are back to help you celebrate the season of good (s)will with the right amount of cheer! We talk about the impact of the Chibnall/Whitaker era, one year on, what do we consider the best series of the classic era, take a look back at the Virgin and BBC books Uncle Terrance wrote during the 1990s, pump up our 2019 Fanwank of the Year Awards, read your letters and tweets and then punch 2019 in the proverbial on the way out. Gasp as Rob almost bursts an artery during the intro, dine out on Dave's erudite take down of The Space Museum, ponder Richard's love for the Hinchcliffe era before finally revealing has Mark watched anything anything of Series 11 past Rosa? Thanks to all our listeners who tuned in during our very sporadic output during the year. We appreciate your continued loyalty, and look forward in 2020 to bringing you more entertaining episodes of yes, the greatest Doctor Who podcast in the goddamn universe!

42 to Doomsday - Merchandising Melancholia
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Episode 81 – Compared to the 50th Anniversary torrent of Doctor Who merchandising, the stores and shelves today seem bereft of product. Rob and Mark ventured into Melbourne’s northern suburbs to meet Aron from Lobos Collectibles and 42 to Doomsday regular (and co-host of Space Fall – A Blake’s 7 podcast) Richard where we discussed the current state of Doctor Who merchandising from both a retailer and collector’s perspective. We dive deep into why some people are disposing their collections, what manufacturers are saying about the current state of the programme and what drastic action is needed (if any) to reignite the flame in the collecting world. All this plus: Listen as we lament the items that got away! Or as, like a dog returning to eat its own vomit, Rob (inevitably!) brings the conversation back to missing episodes and whether any passed through Melbourne dealer’s hands!
